New Adventure Play Area Due to open 14th May 2010

Diggers in the January and Scene from the summer

Press Release
Northampton Racecourse Playbuilder & Improved Places for Play
 A new £85,000 adventure play space at The Racecourse has been taking shape over the past few months and will soon be open for everyone to play on!

The Friends of Northampton Racecourse, Northampton Borough Council and Miracle Play & Design have worked in partnership to bring this new natural play space to The Racecourse in Northampton. Seeding and turfing will be laid during the next few weeks and then left to mature in preparation for the official opening at 3:30pm on the 14th May 2010.

The Friends of Northampton Racecourse (FoNR) successfully bid for £49,000 from the Playbuilder fund, which aims to change the way in which play spaces are commissioned, designed and developed. This is Government money from the Department of Children, Schools & Families, administered via Northants County Council. This, combined with a further £28,800 from: Northampton Borough Councils Big Lottery Funded Improved Places for Play project, local community funding from the Open Door Shop;,the Friends of Northampton Racecourse; Northamptonshire,County Councillors Empowerment Funding and Health in Northampton Communities (Northampton PCT), has created an exciting and challenging play space.

Steve Summers, a member of the Friends is very excited about the new facility;

“It may have taken us 5 years of concerted voluntary effort to get to this point, but it’ll have been worth every moment to see local children & young people having fun, healthy exercise and mixing together in the new play space”

Tours of the play space have been arranged to show off and to explain about the new Playbuilder site for children, young people and adults. These tours will take place on the 25th March 2010 for local school students in the morning and then at 4pm for any local residents to come along too. Volunteers from the Friends of Northampton Racecourse and Miracle Play & Design will be on hand to show off the new place space, and give people a background to the Racecourse Playbuilder project.

Details about further improvements to play spaces on The Racecourse will be unveiled at the next Friends of Northampton Racecourse public meeting at 7.30pm on April 29th at Leicester St. Community Rooms –everyone is welcome to attend and to hear more about the voluntary work of the Friends.
