AT THE HEART OF ABINGTON
Introduction to MYABINGTON
Abington is a desirable area situated to the west of Northampton town centre. Its close location to Abington Park causes it to be a highly sought-after residential area. Abington has been described as “the Greenwich Village of Northampton”. The Wellingborough Road is a high Street containing a mix of up market independent retailers as well as restaurants and public houses. In addition to this large retail presence there are a high number of small to medium enterprises integrated into the Victorian developed landscape. Abington is also the home of Northampton County Cricket Club.
Where the idea came from.
Our experience of living in the area for the past 15 years highlighted a need for good local information. Information is either too broad or too disparate and as a result the potential to connect the community is being lost. How many times have you walked into the park to discover an amazing event taking place which too few people knew about? MyAbington is here to serve the area by becoming a way to organise and facilitate most of the communities information needs. A website which will become a Community tool for local people and a Marketing tool for local business. Connecting these two areas will be of mutual benefit to everyone who lives, works or spends leisure time in Abington.
What exactly is this website?
A website run for and by local people. Containing news, a local directory, discussion forums, classified ads and an email newletter. One stop local information. It is intended that the site will be entirely funded by advertising from local businesses.
What we aim to achieve
- To promote Abington as a great place to live, work, shop and spend leisure time.
- To help the people and businesses of Abington by developing a network of trusted local businesses and trades people.
- To engage more people in the dialog about where they live and what could make it great.
- To encourage and facilitate participation from the community and the organisations which are here to serve our community.
Why is this important?
There is a sense of pride amongst the Abington Community. MYABINGTON is here to help to facilitate positive dialog about the area from people who care for the area in which they live. We also believe that we should encourage one another support the community by spending money locally where possible.
The halo effect
We hope that emphasising the positives of Abington will in itself lead to an increase in the feel good factor of the area.
