06/03/2010 - Freed UK Charity Night

Picturedrome 6th March 2010 from 8pm £7

TICKETS to the Saints, bespoke furniture, and massage treatments are all up for grabs at a musical charity fundraising night in Northampton.
The event, held at The Picturedrome on Saturday, March 6 from 8pm includes performances from local rock band the Skatoons, vocalist Sarah Hepworth plus African dancing and drumming from Kyreme Arts.
Ghanaian charity FREED UK have organised the charity night to raise money to sink a bore hole at a hospital farm in a remote rural area of upper western Ghana.
The project is connected to the Chronicle & Echo Ghana appeal which raised thousands of pounds to build a kitchen at Nandom Hospital in 2007.
The next phase of the project is to get a water supply at Ko Community Farm so villagers can provide the hospital patients with food, rather than rely on European aid.
Currently the nearest water supply is more than 1.5 miles away.
Nandom Hospital has close ties with Northampton General Hospital and nurses, doctors and teachers from Northampton regularly visit the African region which is blighted with drought and fatal malnutrition.
FREED UK member Lily Canter said: “It is a really worthwhile cause but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun in the process of raising money. It is set to be an evening full of great music and entertainment, all supported by local musicians and local companies.”
The fundraiser will include an auction with prizes donated by Northampton businesses including theatre tickets, reflexology in your home, dinner for two at The Church restaurant and tickets for the Saints vs Gloucester game in April.
Since the charity is run by volunteers, who fund themselves each time they travel to Ghana, 100 per cent of the money raised on the night will go into the farm project.
Tickets are priced £7 and are available at The Picturedrome or by calling Lily Canter 07714 595970 or emailing lilycanter@yahoo.co.uk
