Children In Need 2009 saw The Millbrook Car Testing and Proving Ground in Bedfordshire home to The Midlands Event with an array of live music, Vintage Cars and as ever a huge amount of fundraising – this year, an enormous £20, 309, 747 has been raised so far.
Two local bands who both have members who live in Abington, JULIET THE SUN and THE BICYCLE THIEVES delighted the crowd within the high tech striking building. The Bicycle Thieves kicked off the night with a diverse medley of covers, from Tom Jones’ ‘Sex Bomb’ to Amy Winehouse’s version of The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’. With a large brass section, the band ensured everyone was geared up for a great night.
After an intermission in the form of a live cut-to from the London Event, Juliet The Sun took to the stage for the first of their two performances and blasted out some of their original rock tunes, including their latest single ‘Time For Heroes’ – of which all profits are to be donated to Children In Need. The boys also spent the week visiting hospitals around the local area where they played an acoustic set in each of the Children’s Wards in aid of the Charity.
The Live BBC Show was a dream line-up for petrol heads with a display of classic cars including several incredible Aston Martin’s from over the years, Vauxhall Touring cars from the last 20 years of the BTCC, stunt driving, car ballet, crash test dummies and robotics…And not forgetting the cars from the legendary Only Fools And Horses and BBC’s Ashes To Ashes.
