New Play Space Planned for the Racecourse.
Exciting, new and adventurous play facilities for young people will soon be installed on a small section of the racecourse as a result of a successful grant application by the friends of the Racecourse and Northampton Borough Council to the playbuilder fund. The wide open spaces are one of the main features contributing to the natural beauty of the Racecourse and the new facilities will aim to fit into the natural surroundings.
The new attractions have been selected following extensive discussion with young people at local schools and youth forums and with users of the park itself, but additional public meetings have been organised before the particular items and landscaping for play are finally agreed. However the new play space should be ready for young people to explore by next Easter.
Steve Summers, a member of The Friends of The Racecourse and one of the local resisients who are behind the initiative emphasised that "This award is particularly encouraging to so many of us who have been working to improve facilities at The Racecourse and with forthcoming initiatives such as the refurbishment of the Pavillion as a Community Safety Team and Partnership Office, The racecourse will become even more of an exciting and safe place to visit".
The shortlisted designs will be taken back around local schools and are also available to view on Tuesday 20th October anytime between 7.30-9.30pm at the LimeTrees Hotel. And on wednesday 21st October at The Picturedrome, any time between 4pm and 7.45pm. Link to details and maps for Lime Trees Hotel and The Picturedrome in MYABINGTON local directory
Local people are encouraged to attend and to be involved in choosing the prefered design and play company. FoNR also plan a couple of exhibitions on the Racecourse itself on 26th and 27th October.
