30/09/2009 - County Ground Plans Approved

The Plan to errect six 48 metre high floodlight towers was approved by the West Northampton Development Corporation at a public meeting on 29th September

The plans for a £1,000,000 investment for the County Ground including six 48 metre high floodlight towers had been given support by the Boroughs County Planners, consultants to the West Northampton Development Corporation (WNDC). The plans also included an application for two commentary boxes, camera gantry and an extention as well as the floodlighting.

Residents of Wantage Road and Abington Avenue appear to be divided over the planned development, siting the significant height (150 feet) of the floodlight towers as a permanent eyesore. Others are excited about the commitment this development would make to the continuation of County Cricket in Abington.
