Pick Up Your Dog's Poo

Postby Terry Slade » Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:16 pm

Hi. Is it too much to ask dog owners to take responsibility for their dogs mess? The area around Stimpson Avenue and Wantage Road near Stimpson Ave School has become so bad lately that I decided to contact Environmental Health today to ask for some advice. Basically there is a health risk especially to children from the piles of stuff we find freshly dumped on our pavements and parks every morning. Dog faeces can carry a variety of worms, including roundworm, which can infect people. Children are particularly at risk as roundworms are typically picked up from worm eggs in contaminated soil. The worm larvae migrate through the body, and if they find themselves behind the retina they can cause permanent damage to the child's eyesight.

Environmental Health have committed to monitor the area around Stimpson Avenue School, let's hope we soon see an improvement.

If you wish to report anything please call Environmental Health on 01604 838 000

I have had feedback from Environmental Health. In short, they know about the problem around Stimpson Avenue School but are not able to monitor the area 24 hours a day which is what it would take stop the problem. The area was cleared up by the Council shortly after my call but sadly we are now back to 'poo city'
Ideas anyone?
